Pineapple Express

The perpetual rain pours down as I sit inside my tiny home and watch the raindrops with awe.

What an insanely wet winter for Santa Cruz! The rain has been falling for weeks on end. Rivers are flooding. Extreme high tides and massive swells are reshaping our coastline.

I walked down to the beach on the low tide the other day, and it was incredible to see the driftwood and massive trees that had washed up in Capitola.

It’s pretty wild what nature can do. I’m in awe!

We haven’t been able to surf for weeks because of the thick muddy, dirty water and the logs floating around.

I am using this time to tune in and slow down. It’s the perfect time to practice those Three daily exercises I wrote about, then grab a good book and snuggle up with a hot cup of tea.

Here are my two latest book recommendations:

The Power of AWE by Jake Eagle & Michael Amster MD.

Did you know that it is proven that experiencing the feeling of awe can boost well-being and reduce anxiety, stress, and pain? This book is life-enhancing and can change the way you see the ordinary.

Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens

A romance, mystery, and murder novel. You won’t want to put it down.

If you are in the Santa Cruz area, my partner Michael Amster will speak about his new book at Bookshop Santa Cruz on January 17th at 7 pm.
